カースト制がないこの国に存在する謎のカースト

メンタル・イデア・ラボの本城ハルです。少し間が空いてしまいました（笑）。

タイトルの謎のカースト・・・ママ友カースト、スクールカースト、本来の使われ方とは違う意味で、○○カーストというものを見かけます。

自分がどの立ち位置にいるのかを無意識下で常に意識し、上層カーストは下を見下し、カースト落ちしないように必死で、中間層カーストは上層カーストの様子（ご機嫌？）を伺いつつ、下層カーストでなくて良かったと胸を撫で下ろし、下層カーストは大人しくしながら、その外側に位置する（ような）アンタッチャブルにはなりたくないと下を見る。・・・というのが私が知る、カースト制のない国にある謎のカーストの認識です。

息子に「スクールカーストってわかる？」と聞いてみたところ「うん、わかるよ」とのこと。今回は息子にスクールカーストの実態を聞き取りしてみました。飽くまでも息子の通う中学校の、息子が感じるスクールカーストになります。

当時はよくわからなかったみたいですが、小学校高学年ぐらいからはあったと言います。それが中学になると顕著になってきた、と。スクールカーストはどのような子供たちがどこのカーストに位置するのでしょうか。

息子の通う中学校は普通の公立ですが、近隣の中学校に比べ礼儀作法や校則が厳しく、そのせいが学校訪問するとどの生徒たちも立ち止まって頭を下げ、元気よく挨拶をしてくれます。少しでも制服を着崩していたり、髪を染めてるようなヤサグレてしまった生徒は一人も見かけたことがありません。見かけだけ、ですが。

飽くまでも息子が通う中学校、息子の主観になりますが、トップカーストにいるのは“成績が良い”“スポーツ万能”もしくはその両方を兼ね備えている子供たちらしく、クラス委員や体育委員、生徒会の主要役員をやっていたり、声も大きく、クラスの雰囲気をガラッと変える力（？）がある目立つ子供たちだそうです。ヤンチャと言われる子供がいない中学校だからでしょうか。ちなみに女子にそのような生徒はいないそうです。

息子が１年生の時は登校渋りが出かけてヤキモキしましたが、２年生になって一人一人を丁寧に見てくれる担任になったことと、たまにふざけることがあっても、まとまりのあるクラスでクラス全体が仲が良く、イジメもなく居心地がとても良いそうです。・・・なのにスクールカーストがある不思議。

息子自身は中間層カーストの、そのまた真ん中ぐらいと自覚していて、クラスのほとんどがこの中間層カーストに位置するそうで、その中に“班”のような仲良しグループが幾つもあり、その中を行き来している子ばかり、クラスではおとなし過ぎず悪目立ちし過ぎない、平均的な子供たちが集まっている、と。

仲が良いらしいクラスに存在する下層カースト、そこにいるのは“ふざけ過ぎる子”“面倒くさい子”“面白くない子”“暗い子”“クラス対抗で協力しない子”たち。こんなくだらないことが理由で下層カーストとは随分と乱暴で理不尽です。

下層カーストの子供たちが何か発言しても周りの空気がシラっとしたり（アクションが薄い）、給食のおかわりは一番最後にされたりするらしいのですが、無視されたりイジメがあったりはないという。

誰がどことはっきり明記されてはいないものの、暗黙の空気みたいなものがあって、誰もがそれを意識しながら学校生活を送っているように見えるらしいのです。休み時間を過ごす場所もカーストにより違うらしく、上層カーストの生徒たちは教室の後ろに溜まり、中間層カーストの生徒たちは自分の席周りやグループの生徒たちの席、下層カーストの生徒たちは廊下や教室の端、図書館にいることが多いとか。私が知るイジメがあったりクラスが荒れたりするスクールカーストとは違い、随分ほのぼのとしたカースト。

どの社会にも“おとなしい子（人）”はいるもので、それがただただ声が小さいとか人見知り、どうでもいいことは自己主張しない、自己主張をするのが苦手な子、他者にあまり関心がない・・・など理由はいろいろあるもので、時間をかけると仲良くなれる子、ということも多いですよね。

５人に１人がＨＳＰ、ＨＳＥ（ＨＳＳ型ＨＳＰ、ＨＳＥという社交性があるＨＳＰもいます）と言われる時代、当然子供たちの中にもいるわけですが、子供はＨＳＣと呼ばれます（Ｃ＝Childの「Ｃ」）。しかし、

ＨＳＰという医学的な診断名はなく、心理学的には“気質”として扱われます。つまりＨＳＰは精神疾患でもなく、発達障害でもないのが現状です。

私はＨＳＰについては部分肯定派なのでそれについてはまたの機会に。

息子が話していて気になった言葉があります。

「普通にしてたら中間層にはいられるんだよ」

普通、普通・・・。普通って何なのでしょうか？

中央値、平均値みたいなもの？普通というからには何らかの基準があるのでは？その基準はどこにあるの？誰が作ったの？

普通から外れたら中間層（大多数、マジョリティーと理解）には入らないの？普通じゃなきゃダメなの？

・・・と沸き上がる疑問が・・・。成績は良くも悪くもありませんし、最近は友人関係のトラブルもありませんが、発達障害重複を持ち、さまざまな生きづらさを感じている息子は、間違いなくマイノリティーに分類されるはずで、そうなると“普通”とは外れるのでは？普通から外れたら中間層にいられないんじゃ？だとしたら息子は“必死に”中間層から外れないようにしているとか？

やはり疑問だらけです。

疑問だらけついでに、次回はジェンダー、セクシャリティーを考えてみたいと思います。
