今回は自分、他者を理解する上で頭に入れておくと、どこかで参考になる【言語優性・感覚優性】【視覚優位・聴覚優位】という機能についてお話しようと思います。
人には言葉、文字といった
言語による情報が脳内情報処理→理解→記憶しやすい【言語優性】
映像や絵、音といった
感覚器官の情報が脳内情報処理→理解→記憶しやすい【感覚優性】
の二通りのタイプがあります。
絶対にどっち！というものでも、どちらかに偏ることが
優劣を決めるものでもない
ことを念頭に置いてください。人はどうしても優↔︎劣と考えると、優れている、劣っているという一般的な意味に取りがちですが、わかりやすく【優性遺伝】【劣性遺伝】で考えると、その“性質”が表れやすいかどうかの違いということになることはお分かりいただけると思います。ただ、言葉のニュアンスからどうも誤解されがちです。
一重まぶた、直毛、エクボができないなどは劣性遺伝、二重まぶたは優性遺伝ですが、一重が二重より劣っている、直毛より天然パーマが優れているという意味ではありませんよね(笑)

さて、この【言語優性・感覚優性】【視覚優位・聴覚優位】もどちらかに大きく偏る人もいれば、比較的バランスが良い人もいます。その“性質傾向”の割合とでも考えてください。
また、目から入った＜視覚＞情報が脳内情報処理しやすい視覚優位、耳から入った＜聴覚＞情報が脳内情報処理しやすい聴覚優位というタイプに分かれます。
【りんご】と言われて『りんご』『リンゴ』『林檎』など最初に文字が頭に浮かぶ人は言語優位、最初にイラストや写真、映像としてりんごが頭に浮かぶ＆味として浮かぶ人は感覚優位と言えます。
完全に分かれなくても“どちらかの傾向が高いアンバランスな作り”になっているのが人間で、見た目の違いだけではなく、細かいさまざまな性質、傾向の違いがその人の個性というものを形作っているとも言えますね。もちろん、ここには生育環境も大きく影響してきます。
ちなみに私は【言語優性・聴覚優位】で、絶対音感を持っていますが、どちらもそれなりの(？)バランスのようです。記憶力は良いほうですが、自他ともに認める方向音痴で、感覚的なセンスはどうやら壊滅的なようです(泣)
聴覚優位の人は耳からの情報処理が優れているので、絶対音感を持っていたり、会話からの情報処理がスムーズです。視覚優位の人には話だけで理解してもらおうとするより、口頭＋メモ（＋イラストや写真）を使いながら説明をしたほうが当然理解しやすく、脳内情報処理や記憶もスムーズです。
どちらが優れているという能力としての優劣ではなく、『絵を描くことが得意、文章を書くほうが得意』『見て理解することが得意、聞いて理解するほうが得意』・・・という違いだと理解してもらうとわかりやすいかもしれません。
クリエイターやデザイナー、カメラマンなどアートに関わる人は感覚優性が圧倒的に多いですし、物書きや分析を仕事にしている人は言語優性が多いようです。
以前コラムにも書いた私のパートナーはクリエイターです。私が逆立ちしても出てこないような独特な視点、表現するセンスを持っているので、認知面だけではなく『人ってこんなに違うものなのね』をとても身近に感じて感心すること然りです。
多少話がズレますが、発達障害を持つ人は【感覚優性・視覚優位】のタイプが比較的多いので、特に“聞いたそばから抜け落ちていく”覚えることがとても苦手なＡＤＨＤ（や、その傾向）を持つ人には、何度も言い聞かせて覚えてもらおうとするのは残念ながらあまり効果がありません。
ただでさえワーキングメモリーの容量が少なく、自分の興味関心があること以外抜け落ちやすい特性もあるので、『いくら言っても覚えない（覚えられない）』が起こります。
この＜覚える、覚えない（覚えられない）＞と実際に＜出来る、出来ない＞はまた違うので、脳機能について書く時にでも説明しようと思います。
さて、視覚優位の人には話して覚えてもらうだけでなく、視覚化するためにメモを取ることが効果的です。とにかく視覚化できるものは視覚化する、です。
ＡＤＨＤの人に対しては、シンプルにわかりやすく手順をまとめ、イラストなどを添えて視覚化→口頭説明するのが入りやすいと言われています。
１７歳までは『WISC Ⅳ（ウィスク・フォー）』、それ以降は『WAIS Ⅳ（ウェイス・フォー）』という検査で、言語理解や記憶、聴覚理解や記憶など、あんなことやそんなことまで案外いろんなことがわかりますので(笑)、機会があれば受けて自分の特徴を知っておくとよいかもしれませんね。
