先日、久しぶりに遠出をしました。泊まったのは鳥取県は大山の麓のホテルでした。

ホテルに着いたのはもう陽が沈んだ午後７時でしたが、ホテルの窓から人家の灯りはもちろん街灯すら見えず、暗闇そのものでした。

翌朝目覚めたのは午前５時半頃だったと思います。

カーテンを開けると、外は夜明け直前で空はうっすらと明るくなっていました。そして目の前にあったのは、大山の見事なシルエットでした。

別名『伯耆富士』と言われているとおり、まるで富士山かと見紛うほど、左右の稜線のシンメトリーが美しい山でした。ホテルの四角い窓が額縁のようで、あたかも一幅の絵画を見ているようでした。

美しい大山のシルエットをしばらく見ていると、左の稜線から太陽が昇ろうとしてきました。大山からの日の出です。

それはそれは力強い朝陽で、まさにダイヤモンドの輝きと言っても過言ではありませんでした。山頂から昇っていれば、間違いなく鳥取のダイヤモンド富士だったことでしょう。『日、出づる国』という言葉が自然と浮かびました。

東京では絶対に見ることができない光景であり、その圧倒的な美しさに言葉もありませんでした。

朝からこのような光景に接するとは思いもしなかったので、驚いたのと同時に心の中で何かが洗われたような感覚になりました。

後で聞いた話ですが、大山は１年の３分の２は大抵雲がかかっており、山の全景がくっきりと見えることはあまりないそうです。幸運にもその日は雲一つない快晴でした。
