組織のメンタルヘルスについて考える【２】

メンタル・イデア・ラボの本城ハルです。

前回から引き続き組織のメンタルヘルスについてで、【２】では個人が直面するストレスについてからスタートします。

ストレスと聞くと“絶対悪！”と考えられがちですが、実は「喜ばしいことなのにストレス？」と思われることも大きなストレスになります。

具体的には、

  • 昇進／昇格／栄転
  • 結婚
  • 出産
  • 就職／転職
  • 起業／独立

などです。

ネガティブな方向に出やすいものだと、

  • 仕事の失敗
  • 就職／転職／転勤
  • 失業
  • 離婚
  • 家族の問題（健康・教育・介護など）
  • 災害
  • 事故／事件（巻き込まれるのはもちろん目撃するなども）

などです。

なぜ一般的に喜ばしいと言われることもストレスになるのでしょうか？

ライフステージの変化やライフイベントには新たな課題や環境の変化を伴うことが多く、それらに慣れるまでには時間がかかったり多少の労力が必要になるため、大なり小なりストレスがかかるものだからです。

人生一番の幸せなライフイベントと言われる結婚を例に考えてみます。多くは今までライフスタイルも違い、一定期間交際していても別々の生活を送っていた二人が結婚を機に共同生活を送ることになります（別居婚はまだ一般的ではないので除外します）。結婚（同居）とは、今まで離れていたことで見えづらかった生活スタイルの細々とした違いや、さまざまな価値観の相違が露わになるスタートと言えます。子供が生まれれば教育の考え方の違いを嫌でも味わうことになると思います。また姑、舅との新たな人間関係も発生します。

自分一人で誰に文句を言われるでもなく、何もかも自己決定し誰とも擦り合わせる必要がなかった生活上の些細なことも、パートナー（他者）との生活で見過ごせなくなると擦り合わせが必要になります。時に譲り面倒なことも感情的にならず、建設的に意見を交わし合い着地点を模索する・・・

案外ストレスと隣り合わせだと思いませんか？

個人のストレス耐性が低く、ソーシャルサポーター（公的機関や専門家に限らず信頼できる友人や親族なども含む）が整っていなければ、あっという間にメンタル不調を引き起こします。

個人ができることはさまざまな経験を重ね、ストレス耐性を強くしていくことですが、組織としても従業員個々のソーシャルサポーターであることをまず認識し、ライフステージの変化や大きなライフイベントが重なった従業員に対し、サポート体制を整えておくことが重要になります。

誕生日休暇、アニバーサリー休暇などを導入している組織は従業員のソーシャルサポーターであることを認識しているかはわかりませんが、【休暇】以外のサポート体制も整えておくことも、これからの人事労務には重要だと考えます。
